I left my cel phone at home yesterday. When I got home, my Prius gave me a little reminder. When I pulled into my garage, it said “Bluetooth Connection Successful”

Life in the (Airport) Express Lane
Tuesday, July 20th, 2004Just picked up a pair of Airport Expresses at the Apple Store. One is plugged into my Netgear router so that it can talk to the one upstairs. The one upstairs will be used for streaming music to my home theater, and also act as a bridge to its brother.
So far it is working great, streaming my music and extending my range! Woohooo!
Also I named them Castor and Pollux.
Macworld Expo Boston 2004
Saturday, July 17th, 2004Just got back from Boston. I took this trip for several reasons (in no particular order):
a) to see people I know
b) to go on a solo road trip
c) to get some city driving experience
d) to go to Macworld Expo
I don’t think I ever would have done this in a Focus. Now that I have a Prius, I am more inclined to drive. It’s like that commercial where the guys have to drive to their mailbox, and they’re happy that they got something addressed to another house.
Here’s the trip roundup:
I almost got there and back on one tank (451 miles). I think I could have made it, but I was stuck on I-95, and the car’s consumption graph had radically dropped from the 40s to 10s and 20s…Eek! So I got off and filled up in da Bronx. The MPG according to the car was high-40s. The Palm app I use says 43.51.
I stayed in the Longwood Medical Area, which is a good place to stay if you like sirens (the noisy kind, not the naked-in-a-lake kind). It was a little room, but it had DSL. If only I had an Airport Express, I coulda made it wireless.
Also looking out the window to determine my wardrobe for the day wasn’t too helpful, because I didn’t bring any scrubs with me.
Oddly, the housekeeping staff felt it necessary to give me a new set of shampoo and soap everyday, in addition to the ones that were there. At the end, I had at least 3 sets. All this despite the fact that I had my own stuff sitting in the shower.
At the show, I found the Harmony Remote, which is one of those universal remotes, but has a few unique features. It has an LCD screen which serves 2 purposes: a) it allows you to add any old button you want, if there isn’t one on the remote already. b) it’ll help you solve problems by trying different things to see if it solves it (you tell it whether it was successful or not). it also has buttons like “watch a movie” that will set up everything for you: DVD player, sound system, etc. in one touch.
I also got an Ice Creem Kit from RadTech, for removing minor scuffs from my iPod. Haven’t tried it yet.
It was great seeing people I knew. A good chunk of the people I knew from the user groups up there were present. You can see some of them here.
Bye for now!

Domino’s Falls Down
Thursday, June 24th, 2004Frickin’ Dominos….
A coworker orders a pizza, and from his phone number, they tell him his name and what he’s ordered previously…..
So how come when I call Domino’s, they can’t seem to figure out that
a) they DO deliver to my house, and
b) I wanted Crispy Thin Crust like I order every time.
Not only did I have to convince them that they deliver to my street, but they screwed up the order. Why can’t they use that technology when it’s really needed?!?!?

Wide World of purchases
Sunday, November 30th, 2003Bought various things this weekend…a S’mores kit which is basically a burner, sticks, and cracker/marshmallow holders. Luckily we also found a gift set that contains the ingredients (marsh, choc, Graham). Also, I got a microwave oven for my room. Now I don’t have to trek all the way downstairs to make popcorn (when it’s stored in my room).
Oh, and my parents got a 20″ iMac. That is one huuuge screen.
Tungsten T3
Monday, November 24th, 2003I got my T3 on Friday night. Except for a few glitches, it’s great. Its main features are Bluetooth and its expandable screen (software Graffiti area). Below the Graffiti area (or just at the bottom of the screen when there is none), you have little helpful icons: home, find, menu (the buttons in the GA); Clock with tap to useful info/settings, Bluetooth button for net and BT connections; write-anywhere,screen rotate, and GA toggler. I’ve found these buttons to be extremely useful in getting to various functions quickly. So far I’ve installed some DIAs (Dynamic Input area) skins, font changers (to have stuff show up in Times) to customize the display. I grabbed PocketTunes, the more popular (apparently) mp3 player, which is skinnable, so now it looks likes iTunes.
Also, I was having trouble with the web browsers, so I used an included app called Phone Link to set up the connections to my phone. It worked, though it picks things differently than I would (it set up a LAN connection to my phone rather than a ‘Phone’ connection…*shrug*)
Glitches (dunno if these are Palm’s fault):
- When using Drag’N'Tooth, the Palm doesn’t disconnect by itself. I have to power cuycle it in order for it to let me accept it.
- Removing/inserting SD cards causes fatal error (my cards might be borked)
UPDATE: the Disconnect seems to be an issue with D’n'T, and after a hard reset, the SD card thing has gone away.
Bat Boy bites again (in a good way)
Thursday, November 20th, 2003Bat Boy The Musical closed Off-Broadway about 2 years ago. Regional performances have been sprinkled throughout the country this year, and finally it came to NJ. The last performances at Montclair State U are tomorrow. If you can get to any performance wherever you are, I absolutely recommend that you do. The MSU group was just as good as the OB cast, and they’re not even professionals (yet).
